I have been reading a lot of information lately on dry drowning. Basically the child swallows water while swimming or in the bathtub, etc. and some gets into his/her lungs or behind her larynx, the child gets out of the water just fine, then half an hour to 24 hours later, suffocates like she drowned due to the water in her lungs. If you don’t know what I’m talking about you can read about it here: http://baby.families.com/blog/dry-drowning-and-water-safety (There are a lot of sites that explain what it is but this one has a clear, concise explanation. Apparently Wikapedia suggests that the media was wrong and this type of drowning is also called secondary drowning or delayed submersion injury. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dry_drowning So great! Now I ahve two more things to worry about! Anyway, Now I am terrified of this situation. Apparently 15 % of all drownings are actually dry drownings or this secondary drowning / delayed submersion injury. According to the latest figures, about 3,600 Americans died from drowning in 2005, said the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), including a small percentage that die up to 24 hours later because of water entering the respiratory system. A not insignificant number of the victims are children who died after having a bath. I have a trip to Hawaii planned for February and I am sooo looking forward to Avary’s first experience in the ocean (Of course I am going to be super careful – I grew up around the ocean, lake, etc and I know a lot about water safety). However, now I am terrified of the possibility of this tragic situation occurring. All children love to splash around and it’s ineitable in a pool or other body of water that some water will get splashed into her mouth or nose. I am even afraid of her splashing around in the bathtub – for the same reason. Before a month ago I had never given this much thought. I heard of it happening but now I am almost obsessing about it. Apparently, there are only three symptoms of dry drowning and they are very dificult to determine in babies. One is lethargy/extreme tiredness (which can be tough to determine after a long day of fun and playing in water, etc. because baby would obviously be quite exhausted. Two, Disorientation/ changes in behavior – again, difficult to determine in an infant, and three, slowed or different breathing pattern – which, many infants have different breathing patterns periodically throughout their first year of life. Has anyone had any first hand experiences with dry drowning , secondary drowning / delayed submersion injury? Anyone else have a fear of this terrifying situation? I just feel so helpless in preventing it. I don’t want to raise Avary in a bubble and never let her get out and experience life, but I have such horrible fears about this!
You people obviously did not read the question or understand what I am talking about so why would you bother answering? For some stupid points? Get a life!

Do your children wear helmets when riding a scooter?
I would like to hear from parents who require their children to wear helmets when they ride bicycles. We live in a large metropolitan area with lots of bad sidewalks and uneven terrain. Almost all the parents I know require their kids to wear helmets when riding bicycles. But only half of those make their kids wear helmets when they ride scooters. My personal feeling is that even though you can’t go as fast on scooters, the chances of hitting a crack and flipping over the handlebars of the scooter are just as great as having a bike accident. This is why I make my kids wear helmets when they scooter. But my kids think I’m ridiculous (they are
and whine about this constantly because their friends don’t have to wear helmets when they scooter. I say, too bad. If they want to risk serious head injuries when the prevention is so easy, then let them. But I won’t risk that for my kids. I’d be interested in hearing from other parents, and especially from people who have witnessed head injuries from bike and/or scooter accidents.
Do you think swimming lessons should be mandatory? Why or why not? Drowning is the second-leading cause of injury-related death among children under the age of 15.
-U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention I understand a lot of these are accidents & knowing how to swim & being familiar w/ water wouldn’t stop all of them. BUT, I think the statistics would be a lot lower if there was a law in place that made lessons mandatory.
Is my husband supposed to be shooting minute rice?
My husband and I are a young couple. He’s only 21, and I have a concern regarding his…*ahem* less than public parts. Whenever my husband makes love with me, he uses the pull out before you spout out method, and caps it . (I feel ridiculous writing this, don’t mind the awkward way this is worded, please) That’s worked for us in child prevention thus far, as he never ejaculates inside of me. For a few months now, he’s been shooting out what looks like minute rice! It’s beginning to make me worry for his general health. He claims there’s no problem, and that he’s fine, but I (being a woman, and a worrier) want to make sure. I love him. Don’t need anything happening. My basic question is: Is this *normal* for a man his age? Followup questions are:
- Is his diet causing this sort of thing? (He eats a lot of carbs, and drinks pop more often than water. He’s also Hypoglycemic, and incredibly thin with a high metabolic rate, so no fat jokes. He’s NOT fat.)
- When he ‘caps’ the end of his penis before allowing the ejaculate to flow into a napkin or the toilet, is that creating enough pressure to backup his system?
- He is a smoker; does this attribute to this as well?
- He does not wear tight-fitting undergarments (as I’ve heard the ‘urban legends’ say it can damage sperm) or tight jeans
- He is a skateboarder. Possibly an injury from a while back?
- It is unknown to him if anyone in the family has any cardiovascular diseases/diabetes/etc. Is this sort of thing hereditary? Guys, please help a very nervous girl out here. We plan to have a family someday, and I guess the minute rice is a bit alarming. Any answers (serious only!) would be appreciated. Thank you very much for your time.
He is a white Canadian man, not Asian…though that would have been ironically humorous!

i need 3 people to give me there opionion on this article this ian assignment and my test wants to get three opionions from 3 people plus the on i am going to write What Is Scoliosis? Scoliosis is a term doctors use to describe a lateral curve of the spine. Depending on the etiology (cause) of the scoliosis, there may be one or more curves involved. Types of Scoliosis There are two types of scoliosis: structural and functional. A structural scoliosis can be caused by disease, bony or muscular deformities, congenital deformities (those that are present at birth) or improper healing from injury or surgery. A functional scoliosis can occur as a result of injury, muscle spasm, spinal mal-alignment, or the body trying to compensate for spinal problems, such as a herniated disc. Individuals with these conditions tend to create a scoliosis as they are leaning to one side trying to find a position in which to relieve their pain. The curvature of a scoliosis can be mobile, or in more serious cases, can be fixed (unable to move). Cases of immobility are typically the result of injury or a disease, such as polio, that can result in multiple spinal bones fusing together. The most common type of scoliosis is idiopathic scoliosis. This is what doctors look for when they perform spinal screenings on school-age children. The term idiopathic means of unknown cause. It begins as a functional scoliosis, but can become structural over time if it is not managed by a health care professional such as an orthopedist or a chiropractor. It is very important to catch scoliosis in childhood before it progresses as it can significantly worsen as the spine develops and the child grows. More About Idiopathic Scoliosis Between 60 and 80 percent of cases of idiopathic scoliosis occur in school-age girls, and are usually detected between the ages of 9 and 14. The condition may first be suspected when one shoulder appears higher than the other, when clothes do not hang straight, or when one hip seems more prominent. An initial complaint may be fatigue in the low or mid back after prolonged standing or sitting. Note that pain is a manifestation as time passes, as the ligaments of the spine endure prolonged strain. Of the 4 percent of children with detectable scoliosis, half will require treatment or continuing medical observation; the other half can be screened in school and simply monitored for significant progression. What Is the Outcome? The outcome depends on the site and severity of the curve and the age of onset of symptoms. Complications are related to the type of curve present. The greater the curve, the greater the likelihood of progression after skeletal maturity. A prompt referral to a chiropractor or an orthopedist is recommended in order to institute treatment to correct the deformity or to prevent further deformity. What Is the Treatment for Scoliosis? Chiropractic treatment for scoliosis utilizes specific adjustments to the involved areas of the spine. This is combined with therapies such as electrical muscle stimulation, ultrasound, or intersegmental traction, and postural exercise. The progression of the curve in the spine is monitored very closely to determine if more aggressive treatments are deemed necessary. Chiropractic treatments are designed to focus on the correction of the scoliosis and the prevention of complications. A large percentage of scoliosis patients find relief and correction for their scoliosis deformity through chiropractic care.

OH SORRY I MEANT TO ASK DO YOU THINK I AM MATURE ENOUGH TO BABYSIT?
Should the government legislate the size and shape of a hot dog?
Yes this is a serious question believe it or not. ******************************************************************
Pediatricians call for a choke-proof hot dog Nutritionists have long warned of the perils of hot dogs: fat, sodium and preservatives to name a few. Now, the American Academy of Pediatrics wants foods like hot dogs to come with a warning label â?? not because of their nutritional risks but because they pose a choking hazard to babies and children. Better yet, the academy would like to see foods such as hot dogs redesigned so their size, shape and texture make them less likely to lodge in a youngster’s throat. More than 10,000 children under 14 go to the emergency room each year after choking on food, and up to 77 die, says the new policy statement, published online today in Pediatrics. About 17% of food-related asphyxiations are caused by hot dogs. If you were to take the best engineers in the world and try to design the perfect plug for a child’s airway, it would be a hot dog, says statement author Gary Smith, director of the Center for Injury Research and Policy at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. I’m a pediatric emergency doctor, and to try to get them out once they’re wedged in, it’s almost impossible. The Consumer Product Safety Commission requires labels on toys with small parts alerting people not to give them to kids under 3. Yet there are no required warnings on food, though more than half of non-fatal choking episodes involve food, Smith says. No parents can watch all of their kids 100% of the time, Smith says. The best way to protect kids is to design these risks out of existence. Though Smith says he doesn’t know exactly how someone would redesign a hot dog, he’s certain that some savvy inventor will find a way. Janet Riley, president of the National Hot Dog & Sausage Council, supports the academy’s call to better educate parents and caregivers about choking prevention. Ensuring the safety of the foods we service to children is critically important for us, Riley says. But Riley questions whether warning labels are needed. She notes that more than half of hot dogs sold in stores already have choking-prevention tips on their packages, advising parents to cut them into small pieces. As a mother who has fed toddlers cylindrical foods like grapes, bananas, hot dogs and carrots, I ‘redesigned’ them in my kitchen by cutting them with a paring knife until my children were old enough to manage on their own, Riley says. The Food and Drug Administration, which has authority to recall products it considers unfit for food, plans to review the new statement, spokeswoman Rita Chappelle says. Given the health risks of obesity, pediatrician Alan Greene, author of Feeding Baby Green, says, The last thing we need is to redesign candy and junk food with cool shapes, so we can give them to kids even younger. http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/2010-02-22-1Achoke22_ST_N.htm

Most of the nearby muscles muscle pull result, during the movement to help stabilize or did not work. Moved forward only to Football yet. Training should include lateral and good return.
And agility to handle this Plyometric drills. Do not forget the train body. This is the weakest part of the body, most athletes, but maybe it is very important for the success. Neck: Football head and shoulders usually the first contact with a powerful neck and bite to the neck and upper traps are important for preventing injuries. Strengthening the neck in all directions, through a machine or a training partner's resistance must be made. To ensure a good position and we should not forget during the athletes body is not fraudulent.

Lumbar: lower back is another area very sensitive to soccer injury prevention exercises, but usually to prevent reinforcements and correct lifting technique, attention is possible. During the eclipse, such as lower back straight, squat and clean work in secret to prevent injuries is essential. Keeping this attitude against the removal of load for another muscle group (for example, squats for legs) has given a tremendous exercise to strengthen back muscles are. A movement back and further Hyperextension within the coverage area will target these muscles, such as morning exercises. Another high stress under abdominal strengthening the support of the spine is the key. Strong abdominal muscles not only stabilize the lower spine and upper body make him a more punishing blockers and tacklers that facilitate transfer of power between athletes. Medical care to stabilize the spine to initiate explosive ball for core muscles is a great way to educate and develop the power at the same time. Don?t let him get away with that! If he should attempt to pull this on you tell him, ?It?s absurd and illogical to separate medical expenses into two arbitrary categories and designate one as ?Diagnostic? and the other as ?Treatment?. Each area works hand-in-hand with the other in medical practice. I can?t get properly treated without being diagnosed!. He?ll gulp, because he knows what you say is true and that will usually be the end of such nonsense on his part.. ?PERMANENT? AND/OR ?TEMPORARY? DISABILITY: In discussing ?Disability?. it?s important to develop a working knowledge of these two legitimate concepts. Commonly, personal injuries are classified as either ?Permanent? or ?Temporary?. These two terms are used basically to describe the anticipated duration of an injury, and not its degree of severity! Thus, if an injury is conceived as one which would continue throughout the remainder of an individuals lifetime, it?s said to be ?Permanent? in nature. Conversely, if it?s a reasonable probably that the claimant will attain a full or complete recovery (within some future period) the injury is classified as ?Temporary” – - regardless of how severe or extensive the injury might otherwise appear.. TOTAL AND/OR PARTIAL DISABILITY: Another common classification of ?Disabilities? will relate to whether they are considered to be ?Total? or ?Partial?. These terms refer to the actual extent of the claimant?s injuries, regardless of whether they?re permanent or temporary in duration.. THE FOLLOWING FOUR SPECIAL CATEGORIES.
